Top 7 Colorado Adventures
for this Summer in the Rockies

Buena Vista & Salida, with a laid-back mountain-town vibe, in the central plains of Colorado has it all…

  1. Whitewater Rafting – The Arkansas is the most popular rafting river in the United States.  Rush the rapids with sections like Browns Canyon, The Numbers, Big Horn Sheep Canyon, and The Royal Gorge; all with incredible scenic views.  Thrill seekers will find the Arkansas River has something everyone from beginners to advanced rafters.
  2. Mountain Biking – Both Salida and Buena Vista have developed an extensive single track trail system for all levels of riders.  Ride from town and pick from a wide range of sections to excite your sense of adventure.  After a satisfying ride, finish up in town for lunch and a cold local beer.
  3. Horseback Riding – A true Rocky Mountain experience.  Exceptional one-hour rides to full-day backcountry rides and even overnight pack trips.
  4. Ziplining / Challenge Course – The first course in Colorado was built right in the Salida area. Zip across canyons solo or race side-by-side with your friend.  Conquer the canyon challenge course on nine courses rated from serene to extreme with more than 100 challenge elements for all levels.  Pure adrenaline!
  5. Ghost Towns – Rent a 4×4 and drive St. Elmo to explore one of the best-preserved ghost towns in Colorado.  There’s even a saloon, courthouse/jail and general store. You’ll step back in time!
  6. Hiking – There are nine peaks in the Collegiate Peaks range that tower over 14,000 ft (often referred to as 14ers).  The Collegiate Peaks include some of the highest mountains in Rockies.  This is the ultimate challenge; you must be well prepared and start in the dark in order to summit before any hazardous weather rolls in.
  7. Hot Springs – After a great day of experiencing Colorado’s adventures, soak in the hot springs at Mount Princeton Resort.  Established in 1879, with relaxation pools, cascading Japanese style hot spring pools and a world-class spa.  100% natural and uniquely odorless!
